The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has strongly condemned the recent attack on personnel of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Bronikrom near Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Minister described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured the public that government will ensure swift and rigorous investigations to bring all perpetrators to justice.

According to the statement signed by the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Mr. Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the Minister has already engaged the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to deliberate on the matter and coordinate the next steps in the investigation.

The attack, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, involved a mob that reportedly assaulted members of the NAIMOS taskforce during an anti-illegal mining operation in the area. The confrontation led to the vandalism of property and disruption of the operation.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah reiterated government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the country’s natural resources and ensuring that all those who aid, abet, or participate in illegal mining activities face the full rigours of the law.

He emphasized that such acts of lawlessness not only undermine national security but also jeopardize ongoing efforts to curb environmental destruction caused by illegal mining.

The Ministry assured the public of its continued collaboration with relevant security agencies to safeguard the environment and uphold the rule of law in all mining-related activities.
