The Volta Regional Health Directorate has issued a statement addressing reports that a driver of the Directorate has been arrested in connection with the alleged unlawful possession or control of suspected narcotic substances.
According to the Directorate, management became aware of the development on Friday, 23 January 2026, when the Transport Unit received information that the driver, identified as Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, had been detained at the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho. The arrest involved an official vehicle with registration number GV 2460-14, reportedly found carrying items suspected to be narcotic drugs.
A team dispatched to the Police Headquarters confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigations. The Directorate noted that Mr. Dogbey remains in police custody while assisting investigators with the case.
While the Ghana Police Service continues its investigations, the Volta Regional Health Directorate says it has initiated internal processes to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to independently establish the facts. Management further indicated that steps are being taken to strengthen monitoring and tracking of official vehicles to prevent similar incidents.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the delivery of health services across the region.
