The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has inaugurated its maiden Audit Committee as part of efforts to strengthen its institutional framework and enhance accountability.
The five-member Committee was sworn in on January 27, 2026, by Mr. Hayford Dowuona-Hammond of the Internal Audit Agency at a ceremony described as a significant milestone in the development of the Institute.
Members of the Committee are Mr. Alhassan Fuseini and Miss Shirley-Ann Narh, both from the Internal Audit Agency; Mr. Newman Owiredu Darkwa of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana; Mr. Kwamena Essielfie Quayson, a Board Member of NVI from the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology; and Mr. Frederick Mensah Acheampong, a Board Member representing the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Alhassan Fuseini was unanimously elected Chairman of the Committee.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Fuseini assured Management of the Committee’s commitment to supporting the Institute in ensuring strict adherence to audit standards and compliance procedures.
Chief Executive Officer of the NVI, Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, pledged the full cooperation of Management and staff to enable the Committee discharge its mandate effectively. He noted that the establishment of the Audit Committee forms part of deliberate measures to build functional systems that will position the Institute to deliver on its core mandate.
The Director of Audit at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Wilfred Addo attended as a special guest and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sound governance and accountability within the NVI.
Meanwhile, the Committee has already held its maiden meeting, during which it reviewed the Institute’s Fourth Quarter Internal Audit Report for 2025. The meeting, according to officials, was successfully conducted.
The Committee has also adopted its calendar of activities for the 2026 year and is expected to meet according to the agreed schedule as it works to strengthen oversight and internal control systems at the National Vaccine Institute.
