The Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital has held its maiden media stakeholder engagement with journalists in the Volta Region, describing the partnership as key to promoting accurate public information and supporting the hospital’s drive to improve healthcare delivery.
The engagement brought together members of the Governing Board and some members and executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to discuss the hospital’s achievements, challenges and future plans.
Board Chairman, Dr. Delanyo Yao Tsidi Dovlo, said the media had an important role to play in shaping public understanding of the hospital’s work and mobilising support for ongoing development projects.
He called on stakeholders to support the hospital’s infrastructure expansion, including the proposed 500-bed project, stressing that “we need all hands on deck” to ensure the facility continues to provide quality tertiary healthcare.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. (Med.) Hintermann Mbroh, highlighted a number of innovations being pursued by the hospital, including telemedicine services, digital appointment systems, specialist care expansion and patient-centred initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery.
He said the hospital was committed to transforming healthcare services while strengthening communication with the public through regular engagement with the media.
Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, commended the Governing Board for initiating the dialogue.
“I can confidently say that this is the first time that the governing board is meeting the association. This shows that the hospital has the intention of deepening its relationship with the media,” he said.
Dr. Belley expressed optimism that the engagement would improve journalists’ understanding of the hospital’s operations and promote accurate reporting.
“We expect more of this kind of engagement to open up the hospital’s processes so that we provide the necessary information that is required to go to the public,” he added.
The meeting forms part of efforts by the Governing Board to strengthen transparency, public engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders as the hospital expands specialist healthcare services in the Volta Region.
