Plan International has appointed Muniratu Issifu as Country Director of its Ghana office, effective October 1, 2026.
Ms Issifu brings 25 years of experience in development work, with expertise in children’s rights, girls’ education, governance and humanitarian interventions.
She joins Plan International Ghana from Sierra Leone, where she served as Country Director of Plan International for three years.
During her tenure, she led the development and implementation of a new five-year country strategy, strengthened programme quality and impact, and deepened partnerships with donors and government institutions amid a challenging funding environment.
She also enhanced organisational capacity, improved workforce stability and contributed to strengthening the organisation’s working conditions and culture.
Before her posting to Sierra Leone, Ms Issifu served as Country Director of the Varkey Foundation, Programmes Director for CAMFED Ghana and Director of Partnerships at Plan International Ghana.
Her career spans the design and implementation of large-scale development programmes in girls’ education, technology interventions, teacher professional development, good governance and national disaster response, particularly in the education sector.
In a statement, Ms Issifu expressed excitement about returning to Plan International Ghana, describing the appointment as an opportunity to build on her previous experience with the organisation.
She said her understanding of the Ghanaian context, established local relationships and experience gained from leading another country programme within Plan International would help strengthen the organisation’s work.
Ms Issifu said she looked forward to working with staff, partners and communities to expand the organisation’s impact and advance children’s rights and equality for girls.
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that promotes children’s rights and equality for girls.
The organisation has operated in Ghana since 1992 and works with children, young people, communities and partners to address poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination.
