Members of the Abutia Kpota Impregnable Youth Association have donated 1,200 exercise books and other learning materials to pupils of the Abutia Kpota E.P. Basic School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

The gesture forms part of the group’s effort to support education and motivate pupils to take their studies seriously despite the many challenges confronting the school.

Receiving the items, the Headmaster, Mr. Ambrose Agbe, expressed appreciation to the group and noted that the support would help ease the burden on many pupils who struggle to access basic learning materials. He said despite limited resources, the school has made significant academic progress.

“Our BECE results improved from a 9 percent pass rate last year to 42 percent this year,” Mr. Agbe revealed.

The Abutia Kpota E.P. Basic School currently has a population of about 455 pupils, but continues to face challenges such as inadequate teaching and learning resources, dilapidated classroom structures, lack of computers for ICT studies, and inadequate accommodation for teachers.

The Dufia of Abutia Kpota, Togbe Tsali IV, also renewed calls for government and stakeholders to give urgent attention to educational infrastructure in the area.

“The school buildings at the E.P. School are dilapidated now. We want urgent attention to be given to the school structures so that we can have a fitting infrastructure for our pupils,” he appealed.

He also appealed for the establishment of a senior high school in the area to serve students who complete junior high but cannot continue elsewhere.

“There are some people, when they are able to go through their JHS, they couldn’t continue. We want them to be given a senior high in this area as well,” he added.

Togbe Tsali IV, further called for the upgrading of the local health centre and the creation of employment opportunities for the youth, stressing that government agricultural projects should be extended to Abutia Kpota to support livelihoods.

The Assembly Member for Abutia Kpota, Mr. Isaac Glavi, commended the youth for their initiative and echoed concerns about the state of infrastructure in the community. He said the Assembly is engaging relevant agencies to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the school and other educational institutions in the area.

The donation by the Impregnable Youth underscores the community’s commitment to supporting education, even as calls intensify for government intervention to improve learning conditions and facilities in Abutia Kpota.
