Residents of Anyako, Seva and Konu in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region are expected to benefit from improved access to potable water following the commissioning of the Anyako–Seva Water Supply System.
The project forms part of efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all.
Commissioning the project on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, said the project will improve health and livelihoods in the beneficiary communities.

“This project will bring many benefits, reducing water-borne diseases, providing reliable water for households, schools and clinics, and freeing up time for women and children who typically bear the burden of fetching water,” he said.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, also commended the initiative and described it as a significant intervention to address water challenges in communities within the region.
Chief Executive of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Vincent Senam Kuagbenu, said the project will eventually provide household connections for residents.
“This is just phase one of the project. From June to December every household will get pipe running in his or her house. The standpipe is just a temporary measure,” he said.

Health officials in the area say the project will also improve healthcare delivery.
The Physician Assistant in charge of the Anyako Health Centre, Carolyen Tomefa, said the facility had long struggled with salty water that affected medical equipment.
“The water we have here in Anyako is salty and because of that our medical instruments often rust,” she said. “We are hopeful that the new system will supply good and quality water that will also support our staff and the community.”
The project includes a modern treatment unit, solar hybrid pumping system, pipelines and smart standpipes designed to ensure efficient and sustainable water supply to the three communities.
