The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commissioned 21 distribution transformers to connect 24 communities in the Dambai District of the Oti region to the national grid under the government’s Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP).
The project, valued at about six million Ghana Cedis, includes 16 transformers ranging from 33kV, 50kVA to 200kVA, and 5 units of 33kV, 200kVA capacity.
Beneficiary communities include Adorkope Odumase, Kotokugye, Pumpi, Abongo, Olugu, Adinakope, Abongo Akura, Afada and Aglakope, The rest are Kpogede, Napoa, Asubin, Nanso Alavanyo, Sokukope, Nornukope, Kpevekope, Akokrowa, Betinase, Alarmblow, Nanso, and Tamanja, among others.
The Dambai District Manager for ECG, Madam Irene Mary Odame, advised residents to promptly report electrical challenges to ECG offices for redress.
The Regional Engineer, Ing. Godfred Gyansah Awuku, noted that the installations will not only provide lighting but also stimulate economic activities the beneficiary communities.
The Volta/Oti Regional General Manager of ECG, Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working with the Ministry of Energy to expand electricity access to underserved communities. She encouraged residents to pay their bills promptly using the ECG PowerApp and cautioned against mobile money fraudsters impersonating ECG officials.
The commissioning represents a major milestone in ECG’s rural electrification drive and is expected to improve social and economic development in the communities.
