The Government of Ghana has announced with deep regret the passing of former First Lady and Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
In a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, government described her passing as an “untimely loss” that has deeply saddened the nation.
According to the statement, Mrs. Rawlings passed away on Thursday morning after a short illness.
Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was widely known for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and social development. Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, she championed policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women and children across Ghana.
Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former First Lady, particularly her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, and their children.
Details of funeral arrangements, according to the Presidency, will be announced in due course.
