Leaders in Middle East and Europe Welcome Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

European and Middle Eastern leaders have welcomed a new United States peace proposal for Gaza, announced by President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

The plan calls for an immediate end to military operations and requires Hamas to release 20 living Israeli hostages, as well as the remains of more than two dozen others believed dead, within 72 hours. In return, Israel would release hundreds of detained Gazans.

According to reports by the BBC, Hamas officials have been presented with a 20-point White House document, which demands that the group relinquish any role in governing Gaza. The plan also leaves the door open for the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state.

Speaking at a joint news conference at the White House, President Trump described the initiative as “a historic day for peace,” but warned Hamas to accept the terms. He stated that the United States would support Israel to “finish the job of destroying the threat of Hamas” if the group fails to comply.

Prime Minister Netanyahu echoed this position, saying Israel “will finish the job” if Hamas rejects the agreement.

The Palestinian Authority, which governs parts of the occupied West Bank, described the US president’s efforts as “sincere and determined.” A statement carried by the WAFA news agency reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to work with Washington, regional states and international partners to end the conflict, facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries, and secure the release of hostages and prisoners.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan jointly welcomed what they called President Trump’s “sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza.” They also pledged readiness to work with the United States on finalising and implementing the plan, which they said should pave the way for a two-state solution integrating Gaza and the West Bank.

European Council President Antonio Costa also expressed support, noting he was encouraged by Israel’s “positive response” and urging all parties to “seize this moment to give peace a genuine chance.”

The proposal sets out that all hostilities would cease immediately, with battle lines frozen in place until conditions are met for a phased withdrawal. Hamas would be required to lay down arms, and dismantle tunnels and weapon-production facilities. For each Israeli hostage’s remains handed over, Israel would release the remains of 15 Palestinians, the plan further stipulates.
