The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening grassroots engagement and restoring direct interaction between the party and the people.
As part of his working tour of the Volta Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah pledged to revive the NDC’s constituency outreach programmes aimed at deepening participatory governance and reconnecting the party with its core base.
The tour, which began on Tuesday, October 14, in the Hohoe Constituency, has so far taken the Chairman to several constituencies, including Ho, where he paid a courtesy call on the Asogli Traditional Council at the Asogli Palace.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, who was accompanied by the Volta Regional Secretary, James Gunu, and other party executives, was warmly received by the Awafiaga of Asogli, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu, the Dufia of Ho-Dome, and other chiefs from Ho Bankoe and Ho Ahoe.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement as a hallmark of effective governance, citing the example of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, whose leadership style prioritized direct communication with citizens.
“If we are truly resetting this country, we must reset it to reflect how Rawlings engaged with the people. That is how we build trust, share government plans, and receive honest feedback about the real impact of our policies,” he noted.
He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of the Ho Central Constituency for their consistent support to the NDC and pledged to continue deepening the party’s relationship with the community.

“During our campaigns, people often complain that politicians neglect them after winning elections. That is why I’ve made it my duty to return and thank you once more,” he said.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah lamented the gradual decline of constituency outreach activities, attributing it partly to the overreliance on digital communication platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook, which he said cannot replace face-to-face interaction.
He announced plans to reinstate regular constituency visits by government appointees, ministers, and heads of agencies to explain policies, provide updates, and gather feedback from the grassroots.
“You elected me not to be an armchair chairman, and I do not intend to be one. I am a field chairman,” he declared.
Present at the event were Ghana’s Ambassador to Togo, Captain George Infojoh (rtd), Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, and other regional and constituency executives of the NDC.
The Chairman’s regional tour is expected to strengthen the NDC’s grassroots structures and enhance its preparedness ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
