The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the successful organization of a violence-free presidential candidate primaries that resulted in the election of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 presidential election.
In a statement issued in Accra and signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the party commended the conduct of the exercise, describing it as a positive contribution to Ghana’s democratic consolidation.
The NDC also praised the Ghana Police Service for what it described as the “remarkable and efficient” security arrangements that ensured a peaceful process throughout the primaries.
According to the statement, the NDC welcomes continued collaboration and participation of the NPP and all other political parties in what it termed a collective national effort to strengthen and deepen Ghana’s democracy.
The opposition party further noted the concession statements issued by candidates who were unsuccessful in the primaries and expressed the hope that such reconciliatory remarks would be reflected in actions moving forward.
