The Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
In a statement dated February 5, 2026, and signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, the Caucus said it has taken note of widely circulated allegations of vote buying arising from the just-ended NDC parliamentary primary in the constituency.
The Caucus strongly condemned the alleged developments, describing them as contrary to the party’s broader agenda to reset the politics of the country and restore public confidence in democratic processes.
According to the statement, following extensive deliberations, the core and extended leadership of the Majority Caucus resolved to formally communicate its position to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.
The Caucus is demanding that the parliamentary primary organised by the party in the Ayawaso East Constituency be annulled with immediate effect. It further called for the disqualification of any candidate who participated in the primary and is found, after due processes, to have engaged in unethical conduct, from taking part in any subsequent rerun of the election.
The statement reaffirmed the NDC Majority Caucus’ commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and accountability in Ghana’s political process.
The Caucus noted that these measures are necessary to protect the credibility of the party and to demonstrate zero tolerance for practices that undermine internal democracy.
The statement ended with a call for decisive action to restore public trust in politics and the electoral process.
