The Volta Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has undertaken a planned joint enforcement exercise along the Sogakope–Tefle stretch of the N1 Highway to enhance visibility and promote road safety awareness.
The exercise, which forms part of the Authority’s Easter road safety campaign, engaged approximately 560 drivers and riders. The initiative is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through strict enforcement and public education during the festive period.

As part of the operation, riders were reminded to wear their crash helmets at all times to minimize the risk of injury in the event of accidents. Enforcement teams also removed unprescribed lighting systems mounted on vehicles and motorcycles, citing their potential danger to other road users.
Drivers and riders were further sensitized on the risks associated with the use of such unauthorized lights, including impaired visibility and increased likelihood of collisions.
In addition, more than 703 passengers were engaged and educated on key road safety practices, empowering them to play an active role in promoting safer travel.

The NRSA says the exercise is part of a broader strategy focused on safety sensitization, visibility, and enforcement to ensure compliance with road traffic regulations and reduce fatalities on the country’s highways.
Authorities have urged all road users to adhere to safety protocols and cooperate with enforcement teams to ensure a safe and incident-free Easter period.
