The Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenaki, has condemned the violent mob action that led to the death of two people and the burning of the Ehi Police Station in the Volta Region.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2025, reportedly began as a confrontation between two individuals at Ehi, resulting in the death of one person. In an attempt to avenge the death, some angry youth besieged the Ehi Police Station, where the suspect had sought refuge, and lynched him.
According to the Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent William Gyamfi, the mob vandalized vehicles and attacked police personnel on duty, causing injuries to some officers. The situation escalated, leading to the eventual burning of the Ehi Police Station despite efforts by officers to act with restraint.
In a statement, Rev. Amenaki, who also chairs the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), expressed deep regret over the tragic events and strongly condemned the acts of violence and destruction. He described the mob action as unacceptable and a clear violation of the rule of law.
“Mob justice is unacceptable and undermines the rule of law we all strive to uphold. MUSEC, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and other Security Agencies, has initiated swift measures to restore calm and ensure the safety of residents,” the statement read.
The MCE also appealed to traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and the youth of Ehi and surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies as investigations continue.
The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring justice for all.
