A former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Awentami Paul Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman in the party’s upcoming national officers’ election.
In a press statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr. Afoko, he said his decision follows “extensive reflection and encouragement from well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders of the NPP.”
Mr. Afoko noted that his comeback bid is motivated by a desire to restore unity, integrity, and renewed purpose to the party, while upholding the founding values and democratic ideals on which the NPP was built.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party,” the statement read.
He emphasized that despite past challenges, his commitment to the NPP has remained unwavering, adding that he remains focused on promoting inclusiveness and rebuilding the party’s internal cohesion to ensure it continues to deliver on its promises to Ghanaians.
“My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future, one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
Mr. Afoko further disclosed that in the coming weeks, he would engage party members and the media to outline his vision, ideas, and plans for leading the NPP “with integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose.”
The statement concluded with a call for unity within the party, urging members to work together toward strengthening the NPP ahead of future national responsibilities.
