President Mahama Commends Volta Region’s Cleanliness, Hopes It Will Win National Award

President John Dramani Mahama has described the Volta Region as one of the cleanest in the country, expressing optimism that it will emerge top when the proposed national sanitation awards are instituted.

The President made the remarks at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Ho Oxygen City Project in Ho. He said the region’s clean environment, fresh air and orderly settlements make it deserving of the project’s name, “Oxygen City.”

President Mahama stated that the Minister of Local Government will soon introduce awards for the cleanest regions and districts nationwide, adding that the Volta Region stands a strong chance of winning based on its current sanitation standards.

“I dare say, arguably, the Volta Region is one of the cleanest regions in Ghana,” the President stated.

He commended traditional authorities, local assemblies and residents for their commitment to environmental cleanliness, noting that sanitation is a critical factor in sustainable development and investment attraction.

The President assured the people of the Volta Region of government’s commitment to planned and environmentally responsible urban development as part of the broader national development agenda.

The Ho Oxygen City Project is expected to boost housing delivery, investment and infrastructure development in the region.
