The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 1.14 percent adjustment in electricity tariffs across all customer categories, effective October 1, 2025. Water tariffs, however, will remain unchanged for the fourth quarter of the year.
According to the Commission, the adjustment follows its Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which factors in changes in key economic indicators, including the Ghana Cedi to US Dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, fuel costs, and the generation mix of hydro and thermal power.
For the fourth quarter of 2025, the PURC applied a projected exchange rate of 12.37 Ghana cedis to the dollar, an annual average inflation rate of 12.43 percent, and a weighted average cost of natural gas at 7.71 dollars per MMBtu. The hydro-thermal generation mix is projected to remain at 28.80 percent and 71.20 percent respectively.
The Commission noted that the marginal upward adjustment in electricity tariffs is necessary to maintain the financial viability of utility providers while safeguarding service delivery. It further explained that the decision precedes a major tariff review under the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO), expected before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, water tariffs will remain stable at current rates across all consumer classes, with no increment for the period under review.
The PURC assured stakeholders of its commitment to transparent and accountable regulation, aimed at ensuring value for money and improved quality of service. The decision will be published in the national gazette and uploaded on the Commission’s website.
