RAAM and KGL Foundations Empower Women Entrepreneurs in Central Tongu

By Jones Anlimah

The Ruth Adzo Asamoah Memorial Foundation (RAAM Foundation), in partnership with the KGL Foundation, has organized a women’s empowerment and business mentorship programme for members of the Amenuveve Cassava Processors Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) at Mafi Dadoboe and the Kutsrekuku VSLA at Mafi Wute in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The programme brought together 42 women with 30 from Mafi Dadoboe and 12 from Mafi Wute. It aimed at strengthening the capacity of rural women entrepreneurs to improve their livelihoods and businesses through mentorship, networking, and access to financial support systems.

Mr. Ariel Kegyingyi, Volta Regional Representative of the RAM and KGL Foundations, said the initiative forms part of the Foundations’ mission to empower vulnerable groups, especially single mothers and young women, to become economically independent and resilient.

“The mentoring and coaching sessions are designed to build the women’s capacity to withstand shocks such as climate change and economic hardships. Through continuous support, we are helping them grow sustainable businesses that can thrive despite challenges,” Mr. Kegyingyi stated.

He added that the programme also seeks to link participants with experienced professionals who can provide practical guidance and business support.

One of the resource persons, Ms. Gifty Napor, an entrepreneur who shared her personal journey, encouraged the women not to give up in the face of challenges. She spoke about her own experiences in building a successful business from modest beginnings and emphasized the importance of determination, good financial management, and collaboration.

“I have been where many of you are today,” Ms. Napor said. “With hard work, consistency, and faith, you can overcome the difficulties and make your business a success.”

Mr. Samuel Gomashie, a Business Advisor focused on business development, record keeping, and access to financial services. He guided the participants through strategies for savings, managing credit, and linking their VSLAs to larger financial institutions.

He also advised the women to maintain transparency and accountability in their savings groups to build credibility and attract external support.

Mr. Kegyingyi expressed optimism that, following the training, participants will be better positioned to access future business support programmes and funding opportunities.

“Now that they are part of established VSLAs, these women can confidently seek assistance when new opportunities arise,” he said.

The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the RAM and KGL Foundations to promote inclusive economic growth, women’s empowerment, and community development across Ghana.
