Team Ken Demands Sanctions Against Wontumi, Abronye Over Anti-Party Conduct

By Jones Anlimah

Team Ken Agyapong has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take immediate disciplinary action against the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and the Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), for what it describes as “gross anti-party conduct.”

In a press statement issued on Sunday and signed by Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng, Campaign Spokesperson for Hon. Ken Agyapong, the team expressed concern over two viral videos circulating on social media, in which the two regional chairmen were allegedly heard suggesting manipulation of the party’s electoral register and processes to favour a particular candidate ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries.

The statement said the comments constituted a grave violation of the NPP’s constitution, undermining not only the credibility of the party’s internal electoral processes but also the unity and integrity of the upcoming primaries.

“These comments amount to gross misconduct and a violation of Article 4 (7) of the Party’s constitution. They do not only damage the reputation of the NPP as a democratic institution but also threaten the credibility and unity of the presidential primaries,” the statement read.

According to Team Ken, the conduct of the two chairmen, who are members of both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council, cannot be treated lightly. The team argued that their words carry significant weight and therefore must be condemned and sanctioned.

It further urged the NEC and the National Council to summon the two regional chairmen before the appropriate disciplinary bodies, stressing that swift action was needed to send a strong signal that “no individual, regardless of rank or status, is above the rules of the Party.”

The statement warned that failure to act decisively would only reinforce perceptions of bias and lend credibility to what it described as a “dangerous narrative” of orchestrated efforts to skew the process in favour of a particular candidate.

Team Ken reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process, adding that measures had been put in place to safeguard the sanctity of the primaries. It also called on all party faithful to remain vigilant as preparations for the January 2026 presidential primaries gather momentum.
