Thousands of people thronged to Asogli in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region to witness this year’s Hailing of Yam ceremony, a major highlight of the annual Asogli Yam Festival.

The sacred rite, locally called Te-Yruyru, was led by community elders and leaders, and featured traditional prayers at vantage points to thank God and the ancestors for a fruitful harvest.

The procession began at the Ho Market Top through the Principal street to Civic Centre and ended with a gathering at the Mawuko School Park.

Over the years, the Hailing of Yam has grown into a unifying cultural event that attracts chiefs, citizens, and visitors from far and near. It not only celebrates yam as a staple crop but also promotes unity, thanksgiving, and cultural identity among the Asogli Eʋe people of the Volta Region.

This year’s ceremony sets the stage for the grand durbar and other activities that crown the Asogli Yam Festival.
