Volta Presiding Members Back Atokple, Express Concern Over EOCO Actions

The Conference of Presiding Members in the Volta Region has expressed strong concern over what it describes as attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Volta Regional Council of State member, His Eminence Gabriel Tanko Kwamega Atokpele.

At a press conference in Ho, the regional capital, the Conference addressed recent developments involving publications and press releases attributed to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), as well as commentary circulating in the media.

The Presiding Member for Central Tongu and representative of the Conference, Mr. Moses Awukuri Danyevor, stated that the group finds the situation troubling and unjustified.

“The Conference has followed with deep concern a series of publications and press releases… which appear to unfairly tarnish the reputation of a distinguished statesman and a dedicated public servant,” he said.

According to the Conference, EOCO’s actions disregard a ruling delivered on March 9, 2026, by the High Court in Adenta, which reportedly established that the agency lacks the mandate to investigate the matter.

Mr. Danyevor emphasized the importance of upholding judicial authority, noting that “respect for judicial authority is fundamental to the rule of law and democratic governance.”

The Conference reaffirmed its confidence in His Eminence Gabriel Tanko Kwamega Atokpele. describing him as a person of integrity whose service to the region has been exemplary.

“We stand firmly behind His Eminence… whose exemplary service, integrity and dedication to the development of the Volta Region are widely recognised,” he stated.

The group also raised concerns about the conduct of certain individuals, including the Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Raymond Archer, suggesting that their actions risk undermining public confidence in state institutions.

The Conference further called on the media and other stakeholders to exercise responsibility in their reportage.

“We remind media outlets… to report accurately, respect the law, and avoid creating narratives that undermine the personality of His Eminence,” Mr. Danyevor added.

He cautioned that any continued attempts to malign the Council of State member or destabilize institutions in the region would prompt the Conference to take lawful action.

The Conference urged all parties to act in the interest of justice, truth, and development, stressing its readiness to protect the reputation of the region and its leadership.
