The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted 26 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Ho.
According to police, the operation was triggered on January 23, 2026, after intelligence indicated that a white American Ford Wagon carrying a Ghana Health Service inscription was transporting suspected narcotics from Dzolokpuita towards Ho.

Officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), and the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) mounted surveillance and subsequently intercepted the vehicle near the Tarso Hotel after the driver allegedly refused to stop when signaled at the Ziave Police checkpoint.
A search conducted in the presence of the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Godsway Kwaku Dogbey of the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, revealed 26 maxi sacks containing 2,045 compressed yellow oval-shaped wraps of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Police estimate the street value at GH¢1,022,500.00.

The suspect has been detained as investigations continue. Police say processes are underway to forward the seized exhibits to the Forensic Laboratory for further examination and analysis.
The Volta Regional Police Command has assured the public of enhanced surveillance as part of efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities across the region.
