The Paramount Chief of the Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV, has described his role as Chairman of the 41st National Farmers Day Grand Durbar in Ho, as a moment of vindication and honour, years after a similar opportunity was taken from him at the last minute.
Addressing guests at the colourful event, Togbe Afede recounted how he was originally selected to chair the 35th National Farmers Day in 2009, only for his nomination to be withdrawn a day before the ceremony.
“I was invited to chair the event… then suddenly the day before the event, my nomination was withdrawn, thanks to the pettiness of those days,” he recalled.
He noted that his return to chair this year’s national celebration signals a renewed spirit of unity and recognition for traditional authorities.

“Here am I again today, privileged to be chairman of the 41st celebration, and I want to thank the government for the great honor it has done the chiefs and the people of Ho, and the great honor it has done to me in particular.”#
The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli urged stakeholders to adopt more mechanized farming methods and expand plantation agriculture to utilize Ghana’s vast uncultivated lands.
He encouraged citizens to support farmers by choosing Ghanaian produce.
“We have to eat Ghana so we can grow Ghana and secure the future of the motherland.”
His return to the national stage as chairman, he said, is a reminder that setbacks can become stepping stones when service to nation remains the priority.
