The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Central Tongu, Hon. Addisson Dodzi Mornyuie, has recently appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Rural Development to address concerns surrounding the refund of GHS 150,000 to the District Assembly’s Common Fund.
The funds were reportedly refunded from the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF). Hon. Mornyuie and his management appeared before the Committee on Thursday, September 18, to respond to questions about these transactions. This session was streamed live on the Parliament of Ghana website.
Hon. Mornyuie, accompanied by the District Finance Officer, informed the committee that the expenditure in question was made under a previous administration and later reimbursed to the Common Fund.
Despite the explanation, members of the committee raised further questions regarding the nature of the original expenditure and the legal basis for the refund.
In an interview with GBC Volta Star Radio’s “Politely Political”, hosted by Tony Mark-Boye, the DCE reiterated that he had no involvement in the initial disbursement of the funds.
The Parliamentary Committee has indicated that investigations are still ongoing.
The outcome is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the transaction and determine whether there were any breaches of financial procedure.
The issue has generated public interest and has further brought attention to the need for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds at the local government level.
