MTN Ghana has announced a US$1.1 billion investment over three years to boost network capacity, service quality and infrastructure resilience nationwide, with the Volta Region set to benefit from the expansion.
The General Manager for Southern Ghana, David Gyimah Boadi, made the announcement at a stakeholder engagement in the Volta Region, held as part of activities marking the company’s 30th anniversary.
He said MTN will invest about US$380 million in 2026 and deploy 500 new network sites across the country this year to strengthen connectivity and improve the customer experience.
“Our commitment to the development of Ghana is practical and long term,” Mr Boadi said. He added that MTN will continue to focus on network optimisation, school connectivity, customer education and community interventions in the region.
According to him, the investments are meant to ensure that residents of the Volta Region can take full part in Ghana’s digital transformation and benefit from the economic opportunities it creates.

MTN highlights support for health and education
Mr Boadi said the MTN Ghana Foundation had commissioned and handed over an ultra-modern Accident and Emergency Centre valued at GH¢15.4 million to the Ho Teaching Hospital in March 2026.
He said the Foundation had also supported 230 students through its Bright Scholarship schemes to promote access to education and improve opportunities for young people.
Nationally, the Foundation awarded 500 Bright Scholarships in 2026, covering tuition, accommodation, a stipend and a laptop.
The company also highlighted its contribution to digital skills development through programmes such as One Million Coders, the MTN Skills Academy and Girls-in-ICT.
According to Mr Boadi, the Girls-in-ICT programme was held in the Volta Region in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, training 1,000 girls and 100 teachers in basic information and communications technology, digital skills and work readiness.
He said the initiatives formed part of MTN’s broader commitment to supporting young people, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises to take advantage of opportunities in the digital economy.

MoMo transactions record 44.4% growth
Mr Boadi also highlighted the growing role of Mobile Money (MoMo) in promoting financial inclusion and facilitating business transactions.
He said MoMo transaction value grew by 44.4 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, while active users increased by 3.1 per cent.
Transaction volumes and MoMo revenue also grew by 23.3 per cent each during the period.
“For individuals and businesses, MoMo is more than a payment service. It is a gateway to financial inclusion and economic opportunity,” he said.
He added that the company would continue investing in cybersecurity, transaction protection and customer education to combat fraud.
Mr Boadi urged customers to safeguard their personal information, PINs and passwords, emphasising that cybersecurity was a shared responsibility.
MTN records growth in revenue and profit
The General Manager said MTN Ghana’s financial performance remained strong, providing the company with the resources to sustain its network investments and community development programmes.
He said service revenue grew by 32.3 per cent to GH¢15 billion in the first half of 2026, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased by 47.1 per cent to GH¢9.3 billion.
Profit after tax also rose by 46.8 per cent to GH¢5.1 billion during the period.
He added that the company paid GH¢5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes, as well as GH¢384.7 million in fees and levies.
“We share these figures not to boast, but to show the link between strong business and national development,” Mr Boadi said.

He explained that the company’s financial strength enabled it to invest in telecommunications infrastructure, support local businesses, create jobs, contribute to national revenue and fund social interventions.
Calls for stronger stakeholder collaboration
Mr Boadi acknowledged that challenges remained in expanding digital access, particularly in the areas of affordability, digital literacy and skills development.
He called for stronger collaboration among government, regulators, educational institutions, businesses, development partners, the media and local communities to address the challenges.
“Our promise is clear: to keep improving the network, expanding digital opportunities, protecting customer trust and investing in interventions that matter to the people of the Volta Region,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to the media, government, regulators, customers and communities for their contributions to the company’s growth over the past three decades.
MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary is being marked under the theme of progress powered by its customers and partners, with the company reaffirming its commitment to connectivity, digital inclusion and socio-economic development.
