Republic Bank Ghana Wins International Award for Water Projects

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC has received international recognition in the Climate Finance category at the 2026 WSBI-ESBG SDG Awards for its investment in water projects in four locations across Ghana.

The award recognises the bank’s contribution to Sustainable Development Goal Six (SDG 6), which focuses on clean water and sanitation, through the provision of mechanised boreholes at Adidome Senior High School and Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region, Pwalugu in the Upper East Region, and Dingoni in the Northern Region.

The recognition was presented in Bangkok, Thailand, alongside the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with the bank’s Managing Director, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, receiving the award on its behalf.

The projects, implemented under the bank’s Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) initiative, are designed to improve access to reliable and safe water for students, school staff and underserved communities.

The facilities use solar and electricity-powered systems to meet daily water needs, with the broader objective of improving public health, supporting education and strengthening community livelihoods.

Speaking on the recognition, Dr Dzoboku said climate finance should translate into practical benefits for people and communities.

He said the award affirmed the bank’s commitment to responsible banking and sustainable development, particularly in helping communities access essential resources and respond to environmental challenges.

The bank says the interventions demonstrate the importance of investing in dependable water infrastructure as changing rainfall patterns and water scarcity increasingly threaten water security and community resilience.

Republic Bank Ghana has identified four Sustainable Development Goals as priorities for its corporate social responsibility activities: Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

The bank says these priorities guide its efforts to promote environmental sustainability, social inclusion and long-term community development through its PMAD initiative.

The recognition also comes as its parent company, Republic Financial Holdings Limited, announced an expanded sustainable finance commitment of 750 million United States dollars by 2030 across the Caribbean and Ghana.

The commitment is expected to support climate action, women-owned and women-led businesses, and agricultural enterprises.

Republic Bank Ghana says it will continue to pursue investments and partnerships aimed at protecting natural resources, strengthening community resilience and creating opportunities for future generations.
