Ho Teaching Hospital is preparing to introduce telemedicine services as part of measures to improve healthcare delivery and reduce unnecessary hospital visits.
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (Med.) Hintermann Mbroh, said the initiative would enable patients to consult health professionals remotely while reducing congestion at the hospital’s outpatient department.
“We have recognised the need to bring telehealth, teleconsultation and telemedicine as one of the tools to begin to allow us to engage our patients and reduce some of the flow of patients,” he stated.
Dr. Mbroh made the disclosure during a media stakeholder engagement organised by the Governing Board in Ho.
He explained that the hospital also intends to introduce digital appointment scheduling through SMS and other electronic platforms to make healthcare services more convenient for patients.
He explained that telemedicine would enable patients to consult healthcare professionals remotely, particularly for follow-up reviews and specialist consultations, while easing congestion at the Out-Patient Department.
The Chief Executive Officer disclosed that management was also working on digital appointment systems that would allow patients to receive appointment reminders and other healthcare information electronically.
According to him the telemedicine programme forms part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at improving patient experience, increasing efficiency and expanding specialist healthcare services.
Dr. Mbroh said management was confident that technology would enable the hospital to reach more patients while maintaining quality healthcare.
He added that the hospital would continue to invest in innovation to support its ambition of becoming one of Ghana’s leading tertiary healthcare institutions.
