The Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has welcomed the decision by the Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital to engage media practitioners on the hospital’s operations and development agenda.
Regional Chairman of the Association, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, described the meeting as a landmark initiative.
“I can confidently say that this is the first time that the governing board is meeting the association. This shows that the hospital has the intention of deepening its relationship with the media,” he said.
Dr. Belley noted that journalists had consistently provided a platform for reporting on the hospital’s activities and said closer collaboration would improve the accuracy and balance of stories published about the facility.
“We expect more of this kind of engagement to open up the hospital’s processes so that we provide the necessary information that is required to go to the public,” he said.
He expressed the hope that regular interactions between the hospital and journalists would minimise misinformation and enhance public confidence in the health facility.
The engagement brought together the hospital’s Governing Board, and media practitioners to discuss healthcare delivery, infrastructure development and future collaboration in communicating the hospital’s work to the public.
