Management and staff of GBC’s Volta Star Radio in Ho have launched activities to mark the station’s 30th anniversary, with a call on the public and stakeholders to support its development.
Since its establishment in November 1996, Volta Star Radio has remained a leading public service broadcaster, championing development initiatives across the Volta Region.
The station has the widest broadcast coverage in the region, reaching thousands of listeners in the Volta Region and parts of the Oti and Eastern Regions, as well as neighbouring Togo.
The launch brought together government officials, traditional leaders, members of listeners’ clubs and other stakeholders to celebrate the station’s contribution to regional development over the past three decades.
The Volta Regional Director of GBC, Franklin Agbenyo, pledged management’s commitment to improve the station’s programming and operations. He, however, appealed to the public and corporate organisations to support the station’s growth to enable it to continue delivering on it mandate.
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, called for the retooling of the station with modern broadcasting equipment to enhance its capacity to effectively fulfil its public service mandate.
The Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, disclosed that management had submitted a long-term strategic plan to the government, which includes the retooling of all GBC stations across the country as part of efforts to transform the Corporation and improve service delivery.
The Dufia of Ho-Ahoe, Togbe Kasa, who is a patron of the station, pledged the support of the chiefs and people of the Asogli towards the continued growth of Volta Star Radio.
Management unveiled a series of activities to commemorate the station’s achievements, with the climax scheduled in November this year.
