A 32-year-old teacher in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region is appealing to the public, corporate organisations and benevolent individuals for financial support to enable her undergo a life-changing total hip replacement surgery.
Madam Lydia Agbosu, an English Language and Religious and Moral Education teacher at Akusame Vuinta D/A Junior High School, has served the Ghana Education Service for the past ten years despite battling severe pain caused by a debilitating hip condition.
Medical reports from the Volta Regional Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital indicate that she has been diagnosed with end-stage osteoarthritis of the left hip joint and avascular necrosis of the left femoral head. She has also been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease, genotype SC.
Orthopaedic specialists have recommended an urgent total hip replacement surgery to restore her mobility and prevent further deterioration of her condition.
According to medical estimates, the surgery, implant, hospital admission and related medical expenses will cost approximately GHS100,000, an amount she says is beyond her financial means.
Speaking on her condition, Madam Agbosu said persistent pain over the years has made it increasingly difficult to walk, stand for long periods and effectively perform her teaching responsibilities.
She is therefore appealing to philanthropists, corporate organisations, religious bodies and the general public to come to her aid.
“Any support, no matter how small, will bring me closer to receiving this surgery, regaining my mobility and continuing to serve my students and community,” she appealed.
