MultiSoft Foundation, Nyive Health Centre Hold Breast Cancer Awareness and Medical Outreach

The MultiSoft Foundation, in collaboration with the Nyive Health Centre in the Volta Region, has organised a breast cancer awareness and free medical outreach programme to promote early detection of breast cancer and improve access to essential healthcare services in the community.

The outreach was organised as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month under the theme, “Every Story Is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

The programme provided breast cancer education and screening, alongside general medical screening for non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and diabetes.

Speaking during the exercise, the Senior Physician Assistant and Team Leader at the Nyive Health Centre, Anthony Agbesie Sablafo, said the initiative was aimed at screening community members, particularly women, for breast cancer while identifying other health conditions requiring medical attention.

He said the exercise had also revealed concerns about hypertension among some participants, including patients who had previously been diagnosed with the condition but were not taking their medication.

“So far, we’ve screened about 86 people, with the majority of them being women,” he said.

Mr Sablafo explained that the outreach went beyond breast cancer screening to include checks for hypertension and diabetes, helping health professionals identify individuals who needed medication or further medical assessment.

He disclosed that some participants were provided with the necessary medication through the support of the foundation, while two people were referred to a health facility for further management.

The physician assistant expressed appreciation to the foundation for supporting the exercise and making medication available to participants who needed it.

Foundation Emphasises Early Detection

The Manager of Finance and Administration of the MultiSoft Foundation, Cornelius Koby Agbodan, said the initiative reflected the foundation’s commitment to improving community wellbeing through interventions that extend beyond its core business activities.

He noted that October, recognised internationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, offered an important opportunity to educate the public on breast cancer and encourage people to take their health seriously.

“At MultiSoft Foundation, we believe our responsibility extends beyond business. It includes making a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” he said.

Mr Agbodan recalled that the foundation had supported the Nyive Health Centre with the construction of a washroom facility about two years ago, adding that the latest intervention represented a continuation of its efforts to support the community.

He said bringing screening services closer to residents was essential to promoting preventive healthcare and encouraging people to seek medical attention when necessary.

“Our message to everyone, especially women, is simple. Take your health seriously. Seek medical advice if you notice any unusual changes and make use of appropriate screening services,” he said.

He added: “Early treatments, early detections save lives.”

Mr Agbodan expressed gratitude to the health centre, traditional leaders and residents of Nyive for their support in making the programme possible.

He also expressed the foundation’s commitment to undertaking further projects that would positively affect the community.

Promoting Preventive Healthcare

The outreach highlighted the importance of combining breast cancer awareness with general health screening to help identify conditions that may otherwise go undetected.

Hypertension and diabetes are among the non-communicable diseases that require regular monitoring and appropriate management. Health professionals encourage people to undergo routine checks and adhere to prescribed treatment to reduce the risk of complications.

The programme also underscored the importance of early medical consultation, particularly for women who notice unusual changes in their breasts.

Through the collaboration, the MultiSoft Foundation and the Nyive Health Centre sought to make essential health information and screening services more accessible to residents.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage preventive healthcare and strengthen community awareness of conditions that can benefit from early detection and timely medical intervention.
