The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is set to commission newly completed rural electrification projects in several communities within the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region.

The commissioning ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, 11th October 2025, will be led by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor. The beneficiary communities include Zolampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape.

According to a press release from the Ministry, the project represents another major stride in the government’s effort to extend reliable and affordable electricity to rural communities. The initiative, carried out under the National Electrification Scheme, aims to improve living standards and promote inclusive economic growth.

The event is expected to bring together traditional authorities, opinion leaders, officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), the Central Gonja District Assembly, and members of the beneficiary communities.

Speaking ahead of the commissioning, Hon. Jinapor reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to modern energy services across all parts of the country.

He stressed that electricity access goes beyond lighting homes, noting that it is a key driver of opportunity, enterprise, and transformation.

“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives. Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development,” Hon. Jinapor stated.

The rural electrification drive remains a central pillar of Ghana’s broader energy transition agenda, aimed at achieving sustainable and equitable national development.
