President Mahama Attends Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing

President John Dramani Mahama and his wife have arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the United Nations.

The high-level meeting, scheduled for October 13 and 14, will bring together world leaders to renew the spirit of the Beijing Declaration and accelerate its implementation, marking the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

While in Beijing, President Mahama will not only champion women’s empowerment but also focus on strengthening Sino-Ghanaian relations in trade and investment.

As part of his engagements, President Mahama will hold discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Li Qiang. The talks are expected to deepen Ghana-China cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.

The Ghanaian leader will also meet Chinese business executives and attend a Presidential Investment Forum aimed at attracting new investors and expanding trade opportunities between both countries.

President Mahama’s delegation includes the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry; officials from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC); the Free Zones Authority; and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). The team will also visit Fujian Province to explore partnerships with companies already operating in Ghana.

Other members of the delegation are the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Nana Momo Larrey; the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP); the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza (MP); and the Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko (MP).

The rest of the team includes the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim; and a Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Gyantuah.

These engagements, according to the Presidency, aim to deepen the longstanding partnership between Ghana and China and promote greater cooperation in areas of shared development.
