The President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The period of mourning, which takes effect from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26, 2025, is to honour the memory and distinguished service of the late former First Lady, who was widely recognised for her lifelong commitment to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development.

A statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, indicated that during the three-day mourning period, all national flags will fly at half-mast across public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations both in Ghana and abroad.

The statement described Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings as a trailblazer who dedicated her life to public service, particularly through her leadership of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which played a pivotal role in advancing the cause of Ghanaian women and children.

“The Government extends its deepest condolences to the family, her children, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss,” the statement added.

Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and remained a formidable voice in national and continental advocacy for women’s rights.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
