President Mahama to Lead Accra Reset Dialogue at Davos

By Jones Anlimah

President John Dramani Mahama will on Thursday, 22 January 2026, lead the first Davos convening of the Accra Reset initiative on the margins of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Switzerland.

The President chairs the Presidential Council of the Accra Reset, a Global South platform aimed at strengthening sovereign capacity and redesigning international cooperation in response to rapidly evolving global challenges.

Leaders expected at the side meeting include President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya, and President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nigeria will be represented by its Vice President, Kashim Shettima, while Prime Minister James Marape will represent Papua New Guinea.

Former Heads of State participating in the Davos dialogue include President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who constitute the Guardians Circle of the Accra Reset.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the meeting will launch priority programmes following the initiative’s introduction at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly and its endorsement at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

The Accra Reset has been welcomed as a timely intervention amid deepening geopolitical rivalries, the waning influence of traditional aid structures, tightening global trade regimes, and overlapping crises including climate shocks, cost-of-living pressures, health emergencies, and armed conflicts.

The Presidency noted that President Mahama views the Accra Reset as complementary to his domestic reform programme, the Resetting Ghana Agenda, adding that Ghana recognises the link between effective internal governance and a fairer global system.

“Sovereignty means the capacity to execute national visions while building strategic partnerships, particularly within Africa and across the Global South, that advance mutual interests,” the President has consistently maintained.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), affirmed that Ghana remains a founding member of the initiative and will continue to champion a more balanced international order.
