The MTN Ghana Foundation has handed over a newly expanded Accident and Emergency Centre to the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the region.

The modern facility, constructed at a cost of over GH₵15 million, is expected to improve emergency response, reduce overcrowding and enhance patient care at the hospital, which serves both the Volta and Oti regions.

Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to supporting life-saving healthcare interventions across the country.

She noted that the investment goes beyond infrastructure and represents a lifeline for patients requiring urgent medical attention.

“Health is life. To save a life is to save the world. It is not a privilege; it is a right and a shared responsibility,” she stated.

Madam Wiafe explained that the facility was designed to international standards with modern medical equipment to support healthcare professionals during critical emergencies.

“This centre represents an investment of over 15 million Ghana cedis, but its true value cannot be measured in cedis. Its worth lies in the lives it will touch and the lives it will save,” she said.

She added that the centre was designed with sustainability and inclusivity in mind to ensure access to quality healthcare for all.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Hintermann K. K. Mbroh, described the project as a major boost to the hospital’s emergency care services.

According to him, emergency units play a critical role in healthcare delivery because they serve as the first point of response in life-threatening situations.

“Emergency care is the front door of any hospital. In moments of trauma, sudden illness and crisis, the difference between life and death often depends on how quickly and effectively care can be provided,” he said.

Dr. Mbroh expressed appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation for supporting the hospital to expand its emergency services.

“We are deeply grateful to MTN Foundation for this investment. It demonstrates the power of partnership between Corporate Ghana and public health institutions,” he noted.

Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, said the new facility aligns with government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s health sector.

He indicated that the project will help reduce referrals outside the region and improve access to specialised care.

“This new Accident and Emergency Block is more than just a building; it is a lifeline that will save countless lives and strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the region,” he said.

Mr. Gunu commended the MTN Ghana Foundation for supporting government efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and urged management of the hospital to maintain the facility properly.

The Accident and Emergency Centre forms part of the MTN Ghana Foundation’s nationwide investments in healthcare, which include the construction of maternity blocks, emergency units and the provision of critical medical equipment across the country.
