National Vaccine Institute Concludes Nationwide Vaccine Perception Study

By Jones Anlimah

The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has successfully concluded a nationwide research exercise aimed at assessing public perceptions and acceptance of vaccines across Ghana.

A team of researchers deployed to the Ho West District conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with community leaders, exploring attitudes toward vaccines in general and locally manufactured vaccines in particular. The discussions also examined public confidence in health institutions, factors influencing vaccine acceptance, and strategies to improve access to life-saving vaccines at the community level.

The Ho West engagement forms part of a broader national study, which saw the administration of over 11,000 questionnaires across all 16 regions of the country. In addition to Ho West, FGDs were held in six other districts: Juaboso, Nabdam, Wa, Sekondi-Takoradi, North Dayi, and Kwahu Afram Plains North.

Officials say the exercise is expected to generate critical insights to guide a planned nationwide campaign on vaccine acceptance.

The NVI commended its research teams for the successful execution of the study and expressed optimism about the impact of the findings on public health policy and outreach.

The Institute also acknowledged the support of key partners, including the World Health Organization, the Ghana Health Service, and the National Population Council, for their technical and collaborative contributions throughout the exercise.

The findings from the study are expected to inform targeted interventions aimed at strengthening vaccine confidence and improving equitable access to immunisation services across the country.
