The Volta/Oti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has conducted a week-long community monitoring and public education exercise across four districts to evaluate utility service delivery and engage consumers on their rights and responsibilities.
The exercise, carried out from April 13 to 17, 2026, covered the Dambai, Jasikan, Hohoe and Kpando operational districts. It forms part of the Commission’s mandate to ensure the provision of efficient, reliable and quality electricity and water services to consumers.
In all, about 330 consumers in 31 communities participated in the exercise. The team visited communities including Dambai, Katanga, Asukawkaw, Kparekpare and Tokurano in the Dambai District. In the Jasikan District, areas covered included Jasikan, Worawora, Kadjebi, Okadjakrom, Poase Cement, Dzindziso and Guaman.
In the Hohoe District, the exercise took the team to Akpafu Odomi, Mempeasem, Santrokofi Benua, Gbodome, Likpe Nkwanta, Bakua, Gbi Atabu, Kledzo and Fodome Amele. The Kpando District engagements were held in Kpando Gabi, Torkor, Fesi, Agbenoxoe, Anfoega and Vakpo.
The monitoring exercise assessed key performance indicators of utility service providers, including meter reading accuracy, bill delivery efficiency, quality of service and customer care.
Findings from the engagement revealed mixed experiences among consumers. While many respondents acknowledged improvements in meter reading, timely bill distribution and customer relations, concerns persist over the overall quality of electricity supply.
Consumers across the four districts cited frequent voltage fluctuations, recurring phase-offs and power outages, particularly during peak periods, as major challenges affecting their daily lives and economic activities. Small and medium-scale enterprises were identified as the most affected due to their reliance on stable power supply.
The PURC says the concerns raised will be formally communicated to the relevant utility service providers for prompt action.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring of utility services and pledged to work closely with stakeholders to address the challenges identified.
It also assured the public of its dedication to protecting the interests of both consumers and service providers while promoting transparency, accountability and consumer engagement within the utility sector.
The community monitoring and public education exercise is part of PURC’s broader efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and ensure equitable access to quality utility services across the Volta and Oti Regions.
